The Bloody Mary Tattler – January Edition

Happy New Year from your friends at The Tattler! We’re starting 2015 out with a bang – we’ve got new merch on the way, brand new recipes, and even more ways for you to enjoy the best cocktail ever! And don’t forget to visit the website to get your free hangover guide before New Year’s Eve. You’ll need it in the morning, believe me.

Speaking of New Year’s Day, I’m having a Bloody Mary block party, where I’ll be taking lots of pictures of my neighbors enjoying my latest creation. I’ll post them on Facebook for you. I’d love to see what you’re drinking on National Bloody Mary Day, too. Let’s all post our pictures!

 January is…

Bath Safety Month – more accidents happen there than anywhere else in the house.
Be Kind to Food Servers Month – maybe invite them to take a nice safe bath with you.
Financial Wellness Month – did you blow your budget over the holidays? See recipe below.
Get A Balanced Life Month – don’t drink vodka every day. Try gin, tequila, beer…
International Quality of Life Month – see above.
Self-Love Month – also see above! And, take a nice safe bath.
January Weekly Observances
Someday We’ll Laugh About This Week: 2-8 – family drama got you down over the holidays? I didn’t think anyone’s family was as cray-cray as mine. I feel your pain.

National Fresh Squeezed Juice Week: 17-23 – I favor tomato, even though you don’t technically squeeze it.

Leftover Bloody Mary mix: it's not just for breakfast anymore. BLOODY MARY OF THE MONTH

Recently, my doctor told me I should sip apple cider vinegar with my meals to help increase my stomach acid. Low stomach acid is responsible for lots of health issues, like bloating, heartburn, hair loss, weak fingernails, fatigue, and dry skin.

Drinking straight vinegar is completely out of the question. Mixing it with water is like one of the upper circles of hell, but hell just the same. The best way I’ve discovered to get it down is to mix it with a little Bloody Mary mix. Now I never have to worry about my leftover mix sitting around going bad. There just isn’t any!

In my opinion, if you have leftover Bloody Mary mix, you’re not living right. But if you do happen to find yourself in such a predicament, I’ve got lots of ideas for creative things to do with it. Some of these recipes come from www.thekitchncom. Go here to see the complete list.

Make a fancy dip – Place soft sheep or goat cheese in a glass baking dish. Cover with Bloody Mary mix and bake at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes. Serve with crackers and sliced veggies like celery, bell peppers, carrot sticks, and pea pods.

Jazz up tomato soup – Saute ½ an onion in olive oil; add diced tomatoes, Bloody Mary mix and some chicken or vegetable stock. Simmer for a few minutes, blend until smooth, and serve. Garnish with some fresh lemon, black pepper, pickle juice, horseradish, or whatever you’re into.

Give your shrimp cocktail a kick – Saute a shallot and a couple of garlic cloves in olive oil. Thicken some Bloody Mary mix with tomato sauce or puree, and add to the pan. Simmer for a minute or two, then cool to room temperature before serving.

Make skewers with pieces of chicken, shrimp, or steak, alternating with chunks of onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms. Marinate in Bloody Mary mix before grilling. Serve with the shrimp cocktail dip above,

Freeze extra mix by pouring it in ice cube trays. Use the cubes to make an Inside Out Bloody Mary that eliminates the need for extra ice and prevents watered down drinks. Genius!

And lastly, how’s your stomach acid? Do you experience any of the issues I mentioned earlier? You might try doing what I do, and mixing up a stiff shot made with vinegar and Bloody Mary mix. Twice a day will do it, and it totally works. Of course, it’s never a bad idea to run the idea past your doctor first.

Of course, I could have underestimated you. Maybe having leftover Bloody Mary mix isn’t exactly your problem. If you’re bored with your current selection of mixes, try this on for size. It’s a Bloody Mary of the Month Club, where they mail a different mix to your door every month. The deluxe plan even includes garnishes! Check it out here.

I had hoped to have my own mix finished and bottled by now, but I’ve hit a couple of snags. I’ll know more by the time the February Tattler comes out. Wish me luck!
